your personal web trainer

Hi, I’m Jim and I have a lifetime of business experience behind me – I have been a CEO, Marketing Manager and owned several businesses, starting in my teens.

Having recently semi-retired, I feel that I can offer some assistance to small businesses, startups and entrepreneurs by offering one-on-one training to create, manage and optimise their business website.

I have created many websites for businesses over the years (including several of my own), and discovered that a lot of enterprises either shy away from the jargon and technology behind having a website, or pay lots of money to have one developed, only to let it lie stagnant once it is online, as the expense of having someone maintain it becomes prohibitive.

So I have created a syllabus to get people online quickly and easily (without having to learn coding) that has the ability to “plug in” a huge range of functions, like ecommerce, online courses, paid content, membership, events …plus a whole lot more …and guided the whole way, one-on-one, with me looking over their shoulder.

I also offer both the training and support after hours, as I know full well what it is to run a business, and the pressure it puts on your time within business hours.

If you have any questions, please call me – my phone number is

  • Installation of the WordPress framework on your own hosting and domain – create as many emails as you require
  • Creation of aesthetics – brand colour, font, navigation and layout
  • Create pages and posts at will (and learn the difference between the two)
  • Add integrations to your site, like Google Analytics and Social Media
  • Add functions to your site, like:

…and so much more

Why build my own website?

  • It saves you a lot of money.
  • You get what you want.
  • You learn how to add content to your webpage to keep it updated and current, making it easier to find online.
  • You can totally refresh the look of your site without having to enter all the information again.

Why build in WordPress?

  • Over 37% of all the websites on the Internet use WordPress, so your website will be in good company.
  • You don’t need to be a developer or have technical skills to make a website.
  • The WordPress software is free, as are a lot of the plugins.
  • It’s super flexible – you can easily change how your site looks or add new features from a huge selection.

Why not use a ‘free’ web builder?

  • Limited functions and choices.
  • Premium addons costs add up quickly.
  • Not Search Engine Friendly.
  • They own your content.
  • You are locked into forever using their services.
  • You can’t migrate your site to another provider.

Common Questions

It is for anyone wanting a website that they can maintain, update and add content to without the cost of paying developers to create, change or add anything to the site.

It is also a business asset and great on your CV, or you may want to create a web design business.

Training is generally held over Zoom, but can be in-person within Brisbane, the Gold and Sunshine Coasts and Ipswich for a nominal fee, included in the quote.

By the end of the training, you will have a working live site, as well as an intimate knowledge of:

  • How to create content on a page or in a post – and know the difference between them – including adding images and video
  • How to change the look of your site, your colour scheme, fonts, menus, etc.
  • How to add functions and services to your site using plugins, by adding common ones for security, SEO, image and performance optimisation.

By the end of training, you will have:

  • a live site designed to be viewed on all devices, with your logo and the colours and font that you have selected,
  • Email addresses,
  • Several pages, including images and video – and the abiity to add more,
  • Menu system
  • Contact form
  • The skills to be able to repeat it
  • …plus lots more

The Specialist Courses are designed to take your WordPress skills to the next level. This is the major advantage of one-on-one training, in that we can customise the content of the course to your specific needs. You will learn how to add and setup more complex plugin

Yes, we are flexible with when the training is conducted, so long as we haven’t already been booked

Ideally, you will already have your logo, a google account (for analytics), social media pages, and a Business PayPal or Stripe account if you intend to sell on your site.

Packages start from $195 +GST (not including the hosting and domain name), but as all businesses are different, so are all websites, so to avoid you paying for something you don’t need, I can customise the training you require and quote accordingly.

If you are a complete novice, there are two packages worth considering to get you started…

The Essentials Website training takes you from zero to a live WordPress site with email addresses, your logo and choice of colour scheme and fonts, a customised home page, plus (and more importantly) the skills to add more.  Your new site will also have a contact form, security scanning, and performance upgrades.

(Total of 6 hours)

The Essentials PLUS Website training is everything you get with The Essentials training, with additional advanced functions like on-page SEO, Google Analytics and Facebook integration, and how to apply your own functions.

(total of 10 hours).

Additional Support: We know from experience that there are always questions that arise after the training, when you start taking control of your website, so we have added up to an hour of phone and/or screen support to each package.

There is also a member-only Facebook group to ask questions, share advice, your services, etc.

Our one-on-one training starts with a phone discussion regarding what you want your site to do and look like and an introduction to the Planning Worksheet. Once we get a feel for your website idea, we can make suggestions on site functions based on our experience, while you can tell us what you want the user experience to be on your new site.

The first training session will walk you through choosing a domain name and host, installing the framework, creating email addresses, email forwarders and spam filters.

We can demonstrate both the free and paid versions of page builders to enable you to make an informed choice (the free one is really all you should need).

Absolutely. If your site has already been created, we can spend more time showing you how to manage it.

  • Saves you money
  • You get what you want
  • You learn how to add content to your webpage to keep it updated and current, making it easier to find online,
  • You can totally refresh the look of your site without having to enter all the information again.
  • It saves you money (I know we already said that, but it really does)

If you can browse a website, you have the skills to build one, there is no need to learn code …and you can be online in a day.  It will initially be a simple website, but you will also be shown how to add functions, update, manage and maintain your site to make it as functional as you like.

Your website will be online at the conclusion of any of our courses – although the dynamic nature of the training is that you can keep extending your site and content with your newly acquired skills, backed up by after hours support.

Keep in mind that a website is never to be left sitting idle for a lengthy period of time – a site with old and out-of-date content turns off customers, and Google’s search algorithm.

It will initially be a simple website, but you will also be shown how to add functions, update, manage and maintain your site to make it as functional and as complex as you like.

The specialist training is specifically designed for you to be able to install, setup and test the new functions.

By the end of the Beginner training, you will not only have a working live site with a customised home page, you will also have an intimate knowledge of:

  • How to create content on a page or in a post – and know the difference between them – including adding images and video
  • How to change the look of your site, your colour scheme, fonts, menus, layout, etc.
  • How to add functions and services to your site using plugins, by adding common ones for security, SEO, image and performance optimisation.

The specialist courses are designed to take you down a particular path, whether it is setting up an ecommerce store, a membership site or whatever, we have taken the guesswork out of the time-consuming search for integrations, and cover their installation and use.

All of the courses include personalised training in creating a website or applications. What the cost of the course doesn’t include are any additional expenses, including but not limited to:

  • Hosting/Domain Package: Around A$100 per year
  • Any Premium plugin that you require – there are more than 54,000 free WordPress plugins to choose from, but if a premium one takes your fancy, we will give you honest appraisal of its value for your choice.

Additional Support: We know from experience that there are always questions that arise after the training, when you start taking control of your website, so we have added up to an hour of phone and/or screen support to the package.

You will not be left on your own at nine o’clock on a Sunday night when your heading has somehow turned pink!

…and there’s a members-only Facebook group.

To be totally prepared before you start the training, we assume that you have:

  • A logo,
  • Google account (for Analytics)
  • Social Media accounts
  • PayPal/Strip account if you are accepting payments

Don’t worry if you don’t have all these things – we can advise and point you to where to go to get them. You could create your entire site without them using placeholders, but it isn’t desirable.

Ideally yes, although it can start off as easy as your home page content and about us page. You are learning how to add and manage content, so once you have  learnt that, you can continually add to your site.

You do to have a website, whether you have one before the training or wait and do it together is up to you. We can advise on what to look for in hosting for your specific needs, and well as give you tips on selecting a domain name if you require.

You sure can. So long as we are not already booked, it can be anytime of the day, 7-days a week.

All people learn in their own unique way, at a different pace, and require different methods to get to their desired outcome. Not all people respond to learning from a book, or by being yelled at, or in a class full of students.

Hosting/Domain Package:
Around A$100 per year

Any Premium plugin that you require – there are more than 54,000 free WordPress plugins to choose from, but if a premium one takes your fancy, we will give you honest appraisal of its value for your choice.

…and any other additional expense except for the training.
